Blog Action Day: Post on the Environment

A project called "Blog Action Day" has put a call out to bloggers to write about the environment on October 15. Thousands of bloggers have committed to posting something that day or to donating their blog's earnings that day to an environmental charity. You can register to participate on their web site.

Not for Your Blog: A Great Idea

Seth Godin often makes me think, for which I am sometimes grateful and sometimes resentful. This week he wrote a short post on his blog touting the idea of saying, "Not for your blog," when you are having a conversation (with a blogger, presumably) that you do not want to have published online. This is the equivalent of saying that something is "off the record" to a journalist.

I'm pretty conservative with online activity. I always ask whether someone minds if I publish something they've said or even if I can reproduce an email address or phone number. I know I probably overdo the permission thing, but I would be mortified if someone published something I had said or emailed in confidence with asking permission, so . . .

What do you think? I don't come from the generation of digital natives (although I think I may be a missing link between natives and immigrants). Do you like making this request explicit? Is privacy assumed? Or is all information open source and free game? Do you believe Stewart Brand's statement, "Information wants to be free?"

You Like Me! You Really Like Me!

Tiffany of Nature Mom's Blog honored me with a Nice Matters Award! The Nice Matters Awards was originated by Bella Enchanted, who said about it:

“This award is for those bloggers who are nice people; good blog friends and those who inspire good feelings and inspiration. Also for those who are a positive influence on our blogging world. Once you’ve been awarded please pass it on to 7 others who you feel are deserving of this award.”
So, in the spirit of passing along the nice mojo, I hereby bestow the Nice Matters Award on some of my blogging mentors, friends, and some whom I simply admire from afar: George Nemeth, Dave, Maureen McCabe, Timothy, Loretta Donovan, Roger von Oech, and Miss Malarkey.

Blogger Jason on The 11th Hour

New columbusblogger Jason posts about Monday night's screening of The 11th Hour at the Drexel.

Jason's blog profile says he:
". . . created this blog as a means to track our evolving and more environmentally aware lifestyle. We are also trying to become more bike-centric, by replacing some car trips with cycle excursions. We are attempting to make eco-conscious decisions and reduce our impact on our Earth."
It's really cool to have a blogger in Central Ohio with a focus on personal environmental sustainability!

Columbus Best Blog on Green Kitchens

Maureen at Columbus Best Blog has a nice post this week about how greening your kitchen can save you money. I love that other bloggers in Columbus are thinking green!

Maureen runs a heckuva blog, and she's generous with her link love - this blog has seen more referrals from Columbus Best Blog than from any other source, I would wager. Or maybe it's from Discover Columbus, the blog that used to be Columbus Best Blog. That's Maureen's, too. And Maureen is triblogular - she publishes another blog about Columbus, Ohio, on Active Rain.

Friday the 13th on Blog Tour USA

Thanks to the "triblogular" and spectacularly prolific blogger Maureen McCabe, we bloggers got a fun lunch today with the Sellsius BlogTour USA guys, Rudy and Joe. We ate, networked, and talked a teeny bit about blogging. The audience was mostly real estate agents who already blog or who are thinking about starting a blog.

I had the pleasure of meeting a couple of Central Ohio bloggers, including:

Alvin of the 270
Andy of Finerepast
Toby of Sadie's Take on Delaware Ohio
Jonathan of dcs-media

I also got to rant about LEED for homes, green building, sustainability, and blogging Central Ohio to anyone who wouldn't glaze over (too quickly). That's always a bonus! One of the poor rantees was Mike Maurer, online editor of ThisWeek News.

Blogger Lunch with Maureen and Friends

Maureen at Columbus Best Blog is inviting all Central Ohio bloggers to a picnic lunch July 13.

I'm going to try to get away from the office to enjoy lunch with Maureen (and maybe some other Central Ohio bloggers?). I missed the lunch that Dave of Dave's Beer arranged awhile ago!

Graciously hosted by George Nemeth of Brewed Fresh Daily. Thanks, George!
